Ségla, Margaux, Bordeaux 2010

Ségla, Margaux, Bordeaux 2010

Ségla is the second wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla which is considered one of the best of the second growth Bordeaux, coming right after Chateau Margaux and Chateau Palmer in Margaux.

These 2010's are stored in the cellars of Chateau Rauzan Ségla until recently released. Genuinely outstanding vintage from excellent producer (owned by Chanel, no-expense-spared winemaking in their excellent vineyards) and simply incredible value for money. Wonderful to drink now and can be stored decades longer. Pure, elegant and balanced.

93 points, James Suckling: "Extremely attractive aromas of currants, raspberries and blueberries follow through to a full body with silky tannins, and a beautiful balance and fruit, tannin and acidity harmony. Wonderful second wine from Rauzan-Segla. Try in 2017"

90 points, Neal Martin for Robert Parker-Wine Advocate - "The Segla serves up a cornucopia of lush red berry fruit laced with dried rose petals and candied orange peel. With aeration, there are scents of vanilla coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and plenty of crisp, fresh, dark fruit laced with black tea and a little spice. It is a very composed Segla with a long finish. One of the often over-looked second wines that certainly in this vintage should not be overlooked."

Château Rauzan-Ségla and Mouton Rothschild were considered the leading 2emé Cru Classé according to 1855 classification. However, while Mouton Rothschild was given 1er Cru status in 1973, Rauzan-Ségla`s reputation was in decline due to disappointing wines produced.

With the ownership change in 1980s new dawn begun for the Chateau. Under the consultancy of Professor Peynaud, proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend was increased, as was the proportion of new oak used in maturation process.

All these improvements resulted with great quality wines that got attention. Consequently in 1994 Rauzan-Ségla was bought by Chanel. Since then grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, wine is aged in best quality oak (60% new) for 18 months.

Rauzan-Ségla is considered to be the best Chateau right after Chateau Margaux and Chateau Palmer in Margaux
