The highest-scoring wine from James Suckling’s blind tasting of nearly 170 wines of 2012 Brunellos.

James Suckling; Complex aromas of dried figs, dark fruits and hints of walnuts and dried meat. Full body, dense and polished palate. Velvety and poised tannins and a flavorful finish. Yet always refined and beautiful. You want to drink it now and can, but it has a beautiful future. 98 Points

Livio Sassetti.jpg

Livio Sassetti was one of the founders of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino in 1967. Today the business is managed by his son Lorenzo. They produce one of the best Brunello's from their 16 hectares of vineyards nestled on a slope in the Montosoli hill, north of Montalcino, one of the most favourable terroirs for Sangiovese in the area.

Livio and his two sons embrace the traditions which define Brunello di Montalcino. They harvest only by hand, use giant oak bottes and spontaneous fermentations. This is all done in synchronisation with the phases of the moon and within the guidelines for organic farming. Their Brunello di Montalcino is therefore produced form the finest grapes.
