Produttori del Barbaresco 'Barbaresco DOCG', Piedmont, Italy 2013

Beautiful Barbaresco from one of the world's top producers. Barbaresco in Northern Italy had a superb vintage in 2013. A long summer and record-late harvest combined to create wines with richness and opulence that will make them absolutely sensational. There are great wines from this vintage, yet it is unlikely that any will match that of the Produttori del Barbaresco for the value.

90 points, Wine Spectator: "A balanced mix of cherry, tar and licorice flavors, this red is medium-bodied and well-integrated. Shows a hint of white pepper on the spicy finish. Best from 2018 through 2029"
17 points, Jancis Robinson: "Youthful ruby. A little closed on the nose. Supple yet structured and with good depth. Lots to chew on the finish. Firm, muscular style."

Barbaresco, similar to its more famous sister Barolo, is made from 100% Nebbiolo and shares its cult status as one of the finest wines in the world. However, there are several differences between the two. Barbaresco has a slightly maritime climate: warmer, drier and milder than its neighbour Barolo. This means its grapes tend to ripen earlier. As a result, the wines are less tannic and more approachable at an earlier age. However there is still plenty of acidity and tannins to make this an age-worthy red. Barbaresco is characterised by its rich, spicy flavours and perfumed sweetness, elegant and refined.
