Orin Swift Papillon Red 2013, Napa Valley California

Orin Swift Papillon Red 2013, Napa Valley California

Another cult wine by Orin Swift. Papillon is a Bordeaux Blend, with Cabernet Sauvignon complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc.

Excellent 2013 vintage shows a dense shade of crimson red and subtle aromas of cedar wood and rose petals mingle with hints of well-seasoned oak. Broad mid palate saturated with ripe cherry and dark chocolate. The wine finishes with rich tannins that linger on for nearly a minute."

95 points, Robert Parker: "The 2013 Papillon Proprietary Red is 100% from Napa and is a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. This killer wine has an inky purple color and offers notes of espresso roast intermixed with white chocolate, creme de cassis, blackberry and a touch of toasty oak. The wine was aged 16 months in French oak, of which 40% was new. Broad and opulent, with great intensity, purity and depth, this is another stunner from Dave Phinney, a.k.a. Orin Swift."

Orin Swift

Dave Phinney, the founder and winemaker of Orin Swift, is known as one of the great winemaking talents of our time. This is how Robert Parker praise his talent;

"Orin Swift is the brainchild of a brilliant young man by the name of Dave Phinney. His Midas touch with grapes from seemingly anywhere in the world, is unusual, but the brilliance of the wines, his creativeness and unparalleled blending talents have built an incredible portfolio right out of the gate. He only started Orin Swift in 1998 and just recently sold it to the huge Gallo enterprise. Readers looking for personality filled wines of considerable character and complexity need to check out the Orin Swift offerings. They are not shy wines in any respect, but the quality is obvious, and if you are like me and believe that a wine is to be judged on just how delicious it is, you will be as impressed as I have been with the Orin Swift products."
