La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Crianza, Rioja 2011

La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Crianza, Rioja 2011

This is another beautiful wine from one of the best producers in Rioja, La Rioja Alta. Vina Alberdi receives the same care as his most popular big brother, Vina Ardanza. Grapes were picked manually and gently transported in boxes in refrigerated lorries. The wine was aged for 2 years in American oak barrels the first year in new oak and the second in barrels.

Dominating ripe red fruit, currants and liquorice, rounded vanilla, caramel, jam and spices. The wine is particularly smooth and elegant with a medium body. Great value, seriously delicious wine!

2010 Vintage was number 2 at James Suckling's The 50 Best Value Wines Under $50 in 2016

90 points, Louis Guitarrez for Robert Parker: The entry-level 2011 Viña Alberdi is a blend of Tempranillo from different vineyards with a classical fermentation. The grapes are destemmed and crushed in stainless steel followed by malolactic and aging in new and used American oak barrels for two years. There are some toasted aromas of sesame and sunflower seeds, somehow yeasty, with a bit of a reductive profile that I like very much. They have introduced some changes in the vinification, and since 2010 the grapes have been sourced 100% from their own vineyards. With time, more balsamic notes appear. The palate is medium-bodied with tasty flavors, dusty tannins and moderate acidity.

La Rioja Alta

La Rioja Alta is one of the foremost estates in the Rioja region, formed in 1890 by five Riojan and Basque families. It is particularly known for its classically-styled, spicy Gran Reserva reds that can age gracefully for many decades. Their wines are great examples of classic Rioja, having their own cooperage, manual racking, long ageing periods.
